Post Pandemic Weddings for Celebrants

Hello lovebirds!

It’s been a busy Spring/Summer and even Autumn with surges in last minute weddings. This is the result of many couples, that were forced to postpone their celebrations during the coronavirus pandemic, having problems with registrars and venues not being flexible with rearrangements. Some experiencing many frustrations and let downs.

I’m truly sorry for the distress and disappointments many of my clients have had to endure over the past year, however, this has been welcome news for my celebrant business after a very challenging 2020 and I know for many it worked out better for them with some really special moments shared!

In less happy but no less poignant circumstances, a few days before the first relaxing of restrictions earlier this year, I had a call of desperation from a lady who’d had to postpone her wedding over the winter but was unable to wait any longer due to her father being terminally ill with cancer and deteriorating rapidly by the day! She begged me to come to their house as soon as weddings were allowed as she wanted her father to be at her wedding and he was determined to give her away.

We conducted the ceremony in his tiny kitchen, where he slowly escorted his daughter from his downstairs bedroom(he’d been bedridden for months!) to myself in the doorway. It was honestly one of the most moving experiences of my life, all the family were in tears and I’ve never seen such a poorly man look so proud and happy  to have made his daughter’s day! Sadly he passed away 10 days later but she thanked me profusely via facebook for allowing them all to have the memories!

There have been many ceremonies arranged as a result of life altering circumstances caused by the pandemic and I’ve been able to see first hand how covid has both transformed and devastated lives but what has been most evident is how much more people are recognising the importance of their loved ones and how much more we value one another.
